Associate Director/Director, Molecular Pathology - Oncology

Description:
My client is looking for an experienced scientist to lead the molecular pathology/biomarker discovery group. This individual will lead the group and work closely with cross-functional project teams to discover and implement novel pharmacodynamic and predictive biomarkers. This is an exciting opportunity to make a difference in cancer research and be part of a dynamic team.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee the discovery and development of pharmacodynamic and predictive biomarkers for drug candidates
• Use extensive knowledge of cancer biology (cell signaling, cancer genomics) to develop specific biomarker hypotheses
• Implement unbiased methods of marker discovery in preclinical and clinical samples
• Manage growing Molecular Pathology group
• Construct and oversee the process for molecular pathology sample and data flow within the organization
• Maintain expert knowledge of state of the art technologies for biomarker discovery and application on DNA, RNA and protein levels
• Partner with the clinical, clinical operations and statistics groups to integrate discovery and validation of biomarkers early into clinical trial design
• Manage CROs to implement validation and clinical application of biomarker assays
• Initiate and maintain academic and industrial collaborations
Requirements:
Candidate must have PhD/MD degree in Molecular Biology, Cancer Biology, Molecular Oncology or Pathology with 5 or more years of relevant experience. A demonstrated record of cutting edge research in translational oncology and/or industry experience is highly desirable.
• Strong background in cancer biology
• Proven track record in translational oncology
• Expert knowledge of genomic and proteomic marker discovery technologies
• Working knowledge of regulations which are applicable to the collection and analysis of molecular pathology patient samples
• Excellent management and communication skills (verbal and written)
• Proven ability to successfully manage in a matrix environment and as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Highly motivated to contribute to an exciting new field enabling personalized cancer medicine
