Scientist / Senior Scientist in Translational Biology

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Primary responsibility for translational biology experiments to exploit protein homeostasis networks and to develop therapeutics acting through the modulation of these networks to identify disease-relevant utility.
• Participate in and contribute to strategic planning and collaborative interactions for research projects, including presentations, data analysis, experimental design, manuscript preparation.
• Mentor, supervise, and train associate scientists for performing duties related to these goals.
Degree Required:
PhD in translational/cell/molecular biology with a minimum of 6+ years of relevant academic or industry, and “hands on” laboratory experience is preferred.
Knowledge/Skills:
The successful candidate will be a “hands on” translational biologist with a strong background in cell and molecular biology and expertise/experience in:
- One or more areas of degenerative diseases including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s or retinal diseases
- Mammalian cell biology, molecular biology and cellular pharmacology
- Establishing and validating disease-relevant cell-based / primary neuronal / ex vivo
assays for screening compounds is essential
- Imaging and high content screening of cultured primary neurons is preferred
- Training and motivating direct reports to set and drive towards ambitious goals.
- Working as part of cross-functional collaborative teams
Knowledge of pathways and processes involved in maintaining protein homeostasis preferred.
Prior experience with robotics, high throughput screening and/or imaging is a plus.
